I like words. A lot. Click on the Blog Frog! Free tunes! I know it's taboo, but I have opinions! So, who is this Tari chick, anyway? Yeah, yeah, I'm on MySpace.
Literally. I rock.
One of the questions I dread when talking about my music is "who do you sound like?" I usually answer it with something like, "Well, if Bon Jovi and Mary Chapin Carpenter co-wrote a duet for Paul Simon and Jewel, it might sound something like my stuff," or, "If Joni Mitchell's 'Free Man in Paris' and Kenny Rogers' 'The Gambler' had a lovechild that was raised by Aretha Franklin and Eric Clapton, it might sound like something I've written."

My musical training was classical voice, I taught myself to play the guitar, and I have obnoxiously eclectic taste in music...and an equally obnoxious tendency to do everything my own damn way. This most often yields music that's deceptively simple, easy to listen to, and difficult to categorize. I have sad tunes and angry tunes and confused tunes and restless tunes....and hell, I even have a couple happy ones. Not ALL creativity comes from suffering. Just most of it.

I've been playing in bands and collaborations and bars and coffeehouses and back porches for almost ten years now. I've been writing music almost as long. I used to pay someone else to record my demos; these days, I have a laptop recording getup and I lay my own rough cuts for free. Often, the cats help (you may hear a meow or two).

Most of what's posted here for your downloading pleasure is rough demo material. Someday, I suspect I'll put in the time and effort to become a decent engineer and record some quality tracks that don't involve mic bumps, imperfect vocals, and string noise. Or, you know, cats.

In the meantime, have a listen. My stuff has been called "kick-ass meets sweet," and I've been told that my voice could stop traffic. Why not give a listen and make up your own mind? (And while you're at it - send me an e-mail or use the handy-dandy form on the right to join my mailing list, for the latest gig info and special recordings nobody else gets!)
